Ayutthaya - Phitsanulok - Kamphaengphet - Si Satchanalai - Sukhothai

Ayutthaya Historical Park ; Ayutthaya is located in the Central plain, Ayutthaya is 82 kilometers by road. Ayutthaya lies in a river basin. The city itself is almost an island bound on all side by waterways. The site has been declared, Cultural UNESCO World Heritage and also Thailand’s National Historical Park.
Wat Maha That was built by either King Ramesuan or King Borom Racha Thirat I to enshrine the Buddha ‘s relics. The Main Prang is regarded as the earliest example of the Ayutthaya and has marked traits of the Khmer style.
Wat Ratchaburana was built by King Borom Racha ThiratII(Chao Sam Phraya). It is a Buddhist temple in Deravada sect but shown in Khmer architecture style.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet was built by King Borom Trilokanat on the old ground royal palace. This is a royal temple within the royal palace as same as temple of The Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, was used for royal religious functions with no residence monks. The temple was the largest and most beautiful in Ayutthaya. The Three Stupas are in the Ceylonese circular stupas which are the landmarks of the temple.
The Royal Palace was built by King Borom Trilokanat and added to in later reigns. Ayutthaya was sacked down and burnt down in 1767 A.D. when the city fell to the Burmese army. Of the royal palace, only the foundations remains of many the great and splendid halls.
Wat Chaiwattanaram was built in the reign of King Prasat Thong in 1630 A.D., dedicated to his mother and commemoration in his victory over the Khmer. The construction layout was replica to symbolic the Buddhist Cosmology to believe Mount Meru is the center of Universe. This is the Buddhist temple in Thevarada Buddhism but shown in Khmer architecture style.
Phitsanulok ; Phitsanulok lies in the lower part of northern Thailand, Phitsanulok is 379 kilometers from Bangkok.
Wat Phra Si Rattana Maha That. Phra Puttha Chinarat was built in the reign of King Li Thai of Sukhothai Kingdom. The image was cast in bronze in the attitude of subduing Mara, measuring 2.75 meters in width at the lap span. The image is the most venerated Buddha in this province.
Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park ;
Kamphaeng Phet lies 374 kilometers from Bangkok by road. The present Kamphaeng Phet province is rich in ruins of old towns. The old town is surrounded by single laterite walls 5 meters high. The site has been declared, UNESCO World Heritage and also Thailand’s national historical park.
Wat Phra Kaeo. At the center of the temple is the principal stupa in the round bell shaped Singhalese style on a square base with niches in it. The bottom row niches contain 32 Singhas the upper row niches contain 16 Buddha images, and the top row simply has four porches.
Wat Phra That has the principal stupa in laterite and bricks with a square base of 25 meters sides. East of the stupa is the foundation of a large vihan built in laterite.
Wat Phra Si-Iriyabot lies north of the Wat Phra Non and locally known as Wat Phrayuen. In front of the temple lies a laterite vihan foundation with floor raised to about two meters height. There are the figure of walking Buddha, reclining Buddha, seated Buddha, and standing in the attitude of giving benediction (left hand lifted).
Wat Chang Rob The principal stupa is in the round bell-shaped Singhalese style with a square base. The base is adorned with 68 caryatids in the form of elephants in ceremonial dress, with only the front half showing.
Si Satchanalai Historical Park ; Si Satchanalai, now a district of Sukhothai province, lies on the right bank of the River Yom. There are 137 places with historical association in Si Satchanalai. The site has been declared, UNESCO World Heritage and also Thailand’s national historical park.
Wat Phra Si Rattana Maha That Chaliang is located on the Yom River about one kilometer southeast of Si Satchanalai. The large prang was built in the reign of King Borom Tri Lokanat of Ayutthaya to cover the original Khmer prang. It was made from laterite. In the center of the large hall inside, a small stupa contains the Buddha relic’s is situated.
Wat Chang Lom has a large stupa of the round bell-shaped Singhalese style made in laterite. The square base of 31 meters sides is in three receding tiers with such decorative features as of 39 elephant caryatids.
Wat Nang Phaya has beautiful stucco floral motifs which could belong to the Ayutthaya period.
Wat Chedi Chet Thaew. The principal monument of the temple is a stupa of the lotus-bud summit style or Phum Khao Bin on a square base of 13.50 meters sides. Around it are 33 smaller stupas of various style. These stupas probably contain relics of members in the Si Satchanalai ruling family.
Sukhothai Historical Park ; Sukhothai lies on the east bank of the river Yom. Sukhothai is 427 kilometers from Bangkok. Within the city are found four large ponds and 21 historical sites. The area around the within a radius of 5 kilometers contains about 70 historical places, mostly religious monuments of Buddhist or Hindu significance. The site has been declared, UNESCO World Heritage and also Thailand’s national historical park.

Noen Prasat., the elevated base of the rectangular building is 27.50 m. long and 2.50 m. high, adorned with overturned and upturned lotus moulding. He also found a dais where King Ramkhamhaeng once presided over his council of state or when he listened to teachings of Buddhist monks. The stone inscription also describes the planting of the Palmyra palm of King Ramkhamhaeng. Noen Prasat is the remains of the base of the palace of Sukhothai kings.
Wat Maha That is the most important and largest in the old city. It was the royal temple within the palace, in the same way as Wat Phra Si Sanphet in Ayutthaya and Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok. The temple compound is filled with an assortment of construction. Close investigation yielded 200 stupa ruins, 10 vihan foundations, 8 porches for holding Buddha images, and one bot foundation.
Wat Si Sawai. The prang is in the three-tower style. The middle prang is 20 meters in height while the two side ones are 12 meters in height. The brick parts of the prang tower represent the restored section while the original parts are in laterite.
Wat Trapang Ngern. The Buddha images found here are all in the attitude of walking Buddha. East of the principal stupa, an ordination hall was constructed on an island in the middle of the reservoir named Trapang Ngern.
Wat Sa Si. This beautiful ancient monument is in the middle of large reservoir known as Trapang Trakuan. The ordination hall in the middle of the reservoir points to a Buddhist concept of demarcating an area where monks perform religious functions by enclosing the holy precincts with water as a symbol of purity.
The City Pillar. It is assumed to have been a small squre building with a brick base and a tiled roof.
Wat Sorasak. The main bell-shaped chedi sits on a base of elephant sculptures. This concept is based on a belief that the elephant regarded as a beast of burden for the emperor, is a suitable animal to firmly uphold Buddhism throughout a period of 5,000 years.
Wat Phra Phai Luang. The principal monument here is a three-tower prang though only the north tower remains infact, the middle and south towers having only the lower section left. The prang is in the Khmer Bayon style of King Jayavaraman VII.
Wat Si Chum is remarkable in that its principal monument is a mondop, instead of a stupa or a prang. The mondop enshrines a large brick and stucco seated Buddha image the “Phra Atchana”. The left wall has a tunnel for walking upward to the roof found in the left wall over 50 figures engraved on slate stone on its ceiling, depicting the jataka stories with explanatory text in Sukhothai characters.
Wat Saphan Hin stands on the shoulder of a 200 meters high hill about 1.5 kilometer west of the Sukhothai city. There is a slate stone path leading up to the courtyard of the temple on which stands a brick vihan with laterite pillars.
Wat Chetuphon. The four walls of the mondop portray in stucco the Buddha in the four attitudes, viz. standing Buddha on the west wall, seated Buddha on the north wall, reclining Buddha on the south wall and walking Buddha on the east wall.
