Ayutthaya Ayutthaya is located in the Central plain, Ayutthaya is 82 kilometers by road. Ayutthaya lies in a river basin. The city itself is almost an island bound on all side by waterways. The site has been declared, UNESCO World Heritage and also Thailand’s National Historical Park.

Wat Maha That was built by either King Ramesuan or King Borom Racha Thirat I to enshrine the Buddha‘s relics. The Main Prang is regarded as the earliest example of the Ayutthaya and has marked traits of the Khmer style.

Wat Ratchaburana was built by King Borom Racha ThiratII(Chao Sam Phraya). It is a Buddhist temple in Deravada sect but shown in Khmer architecture style.

Wat Na Phra Main was built by Phra Ong-In in the reign of King Rama Thibodi II in 1503 A.D. and given the name of Wat Phra Merurachikaram, though the name is suggestive of the cremation site of Ayutthaya’s kings.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet was built by King Borom Trilokanat on the old ground royal palace. This is a royal temple within the royal palace as same as temple of The Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, was used for royal religious functions with no residence monks. The temple was the largest and most beautiful in Ayutthaya. The Three Stupas are in the Ceylonese circular stupas which are the landmarks of the temple.

The Royal Palace was built by King Borom Trilokanat and added to in later reigns. Ayutthaya was sacked down and burnt down in 1767 A.D. when the city fell to the Burmese army. Of the royal palace, only the foundations remains of many the great and splendid halls.

Vihan Phra Mongkol Bophit was located south of the west of Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, enshrines the Buddha image named Phra Mongkol Bophit. The image is in the attitude of Subduing Mara, measuring 9.55 meters in width at the lap span and 12.45 meters in height.

Wat Chaiwattanaram was built in the reign of King Prasat Thong in 1630 A.D., dedicated to his mother and commemoration in his victory over the Khmer. The construction layout was replica to symbolic the Buddhist Cosmology to believe Mount Meru is the center of Universe. This is the Buddhist temple in Thevarada Buddhism but shown in Khmer architecture style.

Wat Mahathat. The first classed royal monastery of Ratchaworawiharn, Maha Nikaya sect. It was a royal temple in Thonburi period.

The National Museum of Bangkok. The prehistoric objects were displayed together with Ban Chiang artifacts, the origin of Thais, the economic, culture, tradition development of the country from the past to present.

Phra Sumeru Fortress was built in the reign of King Rama I. it was made from bricks coated with cement in octagonal-shaped.

Wat Chanasongkram. This temple is an old monastery was built before the first reign of Rattanakosin (before 1782). In the reign of King Rama I, Somdet Phra Bowonratchao Mahasurasinghanat granted Mon people and monks to live in the area, renovated the temple to be residence of Mon monks.

Mahakarn Fortress is a big octagonal-shaped fort. Its width measured from the outside base from north to south is 38 meters. The structure is made from bricks coated with cement.

Wat Bovornniwet Wiharn. This monastery is a first grade royal temple of Ratchaworawiharn, which was built in the reign of King Rama III. Enshrined PhraUbosot is a brazen Buddha image named Phra Phuttha Chinnasi in the attitude of Subduing Mara posture. The image was shifted from Wat Phrasri Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok province.

The Golden Mount Stupa or Phra Chedi Phukhao Thong. This religious monument is in the form of a golden stupa built on the top of a man-made hill seventy-six meters high.

The Loha Prasat and Wat Ratchanadda is a Buddhist architectural structure that is superior to other exemplary forms of Thai architecture. The large construction is of seven storeys and is equipped with a spiral stair in the centre. The roof of the Prasat is decorated with thirty-seven spires in the Mondop style.

Wat Dhepthidaram. King Rama III established the temple in 1836 I honoring of Somdet Phrachao Lukthoe Krommamuen Apsorn Sudathep.

The Golden Mount Stupa or Phra Chedi Phukhao Thong or Borom Banphot. This religious monument is in the form of a golden stupa built on the top of a man-made hill seventy-six meters high.

Wat Su-That was built in the reign of King Rama I in 1807. He wanted a large temple at the heart of Bangkok as same as Sukhothai and Ayutthaya had Wat Maha That and like the one at Wat Phanan Choeng in Ayutthaya in order to contain a large sized Buddha image Phra Sri Sakayamuni was transferred to Bangkok.

Wat Ratchabophit was built by King Rama V, dedicating to monks of the Dhammayut Order. The temple is a mixture of local and western style. The exterior of the bot is in Thai style but the interior is decorated in European style.

Wat Ratchapadit. King Rama IV bought the plantation and had a small temple constructed there into a temple of Dhammayutika Nikaya, an austere order of Buddhism founded by himself. This is the first temple of Dhammayutika sect.

This monastery is a first grade royal temple of Ratchaworawiharn, which was built in the reign of King Rama III, by Somdet Phra Woraratchao Maha Sakdiphollaseep during 1824-1832, and its former name was Wat Mai. In 1836, King Rama III had invited his younger brother, Prince Mongkut (later King Rama IV) in momkhood resided at Wat RachaThiwat to live this temple.

Temple of the Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Si Rattana Sasdaram or Wat Phra Kaeo built by King Rama I in 1782. At the same time of Bangkok established as his capital. It’s a royal temple within the Grand Palace. The construction took two years to complete and enshrines the Emerald Buddha which is the most venerated Buddha image in Thailand.

The compound of the Grand Palace is divided into four sections: The Outer Palace, The Central Palace, The Inner Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangalaram or Temple of the Reclining Buddha, commonly known as Wat Pho. The Reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, is a lacquered and gilded image of brick and stucco structure. On the soles of the feet is the most interesting feature is the mother-of-pearl inlaid design showing the 108 auspicious signs around the Chakra or a Discus at the center.

The Temple of Dawn or Wat Arun commonly known as Wat Jaeng. The great prang was built in the reign of King Rama III. It is the highest prang in this country. The construction layout was replica to symbolic the Buddhist Cosmology to believe Mount Meru is the center of Universe which was represented by the Main Prang, surrounded by seven cosmic oceans and seven mountains which was represented by the connecting galleries. At the corners of universe are four continents where human beings live which represented by four corner prangs.
